Tom Marting, Director of Sustainable Solutions

In 2023 we launched the Sustainability Gold Star Award. This is an award given to a manufacturing site or distribution center that recognizes projects that were completed by a team at each site that delivered significant reductions in environmental impacts. Since the launch we have given out eight awards to projects with very impressive results. The projects that have won the awards have resulted in many tons of plastic and other waste being diverted away from landfill or disposal and into recycling streams, reductions in electrical and natural gas energy use that avoids carbon dioxide emissions, and tens of thousands of dollars a year in cost savings and cost avoidances.

This year the Sebring Manufacturing Plant has already been awarded two Sustainability Gold Star Awards. The first one for finding ways of increasing the recycling corrugate shippers, resulting in 6,000 boxes a year that they receive from raw material suppliers being prepared for recycling, and 1,800 wood pallets a year being refurbished and returned to use or sold. These two projects combined result in over $50,000 a year in cost savings and cost avoidances while at the same time reducing the impacts on the environment from our manufacturing operations. These two awards bring the total number of Sustainability Gold Star Awards for the Sebring Plant to four! Please join me in congratulating the Sebring team for these impressive achievements!

If you have some ideas and would like to help find ways to make your site more sustainable, please talk to your supervisor or your Human Resources partner about how you can join the Sustainability Team at your location.
